Exotic looking, our feather lamps are really made from some very basic materials: feathers from the ever present Balinese chickens. Bali is THE land of chickens and cocks - especially cocks. Cockfighting is one of the major Balinses past times and has been observed and recorded for decades. Still today you can see Balinese men proudly parading through town with their cocks in arms or in cages, comparing notes with other owners and waiting for the next cock fight. Ever present in Bali is the crow of cocks in the morning - and during the day, all day.
Chicken feathers are in abundance and are used for a variety of decorations and everyday use. Some enterprising artisans decided to use them to decorate lamps - and the end result is what you see here in our selection.
Quite inspired is the table lamp with the use of two very contrasting materials: lava stone for the lamp base and feathers for the lamp shade. Heavy and light, dark and white, and so eminently useful. Our hanging feather lamp is a contrast in other ways - a huge form that is feather light, literally.
Care of these lamps is easy and light as well: use a slightly wet sponge or cloth to keep the dust of the feathers. The feathers of course have been cleaned, bleached (and in the case of our green feather lamps, also dyed) and coated to withstand most naturally occuring substances like dust. You will find them to be much more resilient to dirt or dust than their light appearance would suggest.
