When traveling in Cambodia we met a member of a community group who is recycling old cement bags and making them into stylish bags, wallets and other accessories. The design - and usefulness - of these bags and wallets was compelling. As is the story behind this effort.
There are several groups in Cambodia and especially in Siem Reap who have made it their goal to use discarded and easily available materials to create new products. This of course fits in with the current desire to re-use materials and to leave less of a footprint on the world. In addition, this group uses all the proceeds from their sales for education and other assistance for their community.
Combining our desire for good design and useful products and in the process helping a community to help themselves seemed like a perfect fit.
Take a look at our Cambodian bags and wallets and see whether you do not agree!
